A patent and trademark expert with a client’s perspective
Debra Lewis, European and UK patent and trademark attorney, is dual qualified and is part of both HOFFMANN EITLE’s Mechanical Engineering practice group and HOFFMANN EITLE’s Trademarks & Designs practice group.
Debra qualified as a patent attorney in 2001 and as a trademark attorney in 2003. She has over 20 years’ experience in patent prosecution across a wide range of mechanical and aerospace engineering technologies before both the UK and European Patent Offices and has also represented clients at numerous opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office. She also has extensive experience of trademark prosecution and opposition before the UK and European Intellectual Property Offices.
Before joining HOFFMANN EITLE in 2012, Debra worked for over fifteen years for the patent and trade mark department of a major aerospace company providing her with a client’s perspective as well as extensive experience in commercial aspects of intellectual property including licensing, portfolio management and arbitration. Having responsibility for the trademark and domain name portfolios of this company, Debra also acquired significant experience in branding, trademark availability searches and domain name disputes.
Prior to training as a patent and trademark attorney Debra worked as an aerospace engineer upon completion of her engineering studies at Cambridge University.
Outside of work, Debra enjoys hiking and cross country skiing in the nearby Alps as well as clay pigeon shooting and the Oktoberfest closer to home
