Official confirmation, that Milan will host third UPC central division

According to a press release from the Italian ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation, the Italian government has reached an agreement with France and Germany to establish the third seat of the Central Division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in Milan.

The press release does not provide details regarding the specific competencies of the Milan seat. As announced just a few days ago, Milan will (likely) have some reduced comptences compared to the originally planned London seat. For instance, matters related to medicines with Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs) will remain in Paris, while chemistry and metallurgy will be handled in Munich.

Update (26.06.2023): The Administrative Committee reached a unanimous decision on designating Milan as the location for the third Central Division seat. As previously stated, the Milan seat will be competent for IPC-Section A (human necessities).
