Lars Hemsath is a partner in the Biotechnology practice group at HOFFMANN EITLE in the Düsseldorf office. With nearly 20 years of experience in intellectual property law, he has acquired a wealth of expertise across various fields of patent law. Lars enjoys the technical and legal diversity of his profession and is dedicated to supporting his clients with enthusiasm.

He studied biochemistry at the Ruhr University in Bochum, with an additional focus on organic and physical chemistry, and obtained his PhD in protein biochemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund. This background established the foundation for his broad technical expertise, allowing him to advise clients, particularly in pharmaceutical and biotechnological cases related to antibodies, protein glycosylation, mRNA, gene therapy, and cell culture techniques.

He primarily handles pharmaceutical, biotechnological, and chemical patent matters, working with clients ranging from biotech startups to global corporations. He assists them in strategically developing extensive international patent portfolios, defending and enforcing their own patents, challenging competitors' patents, and managing due diligence projects in corporate collaborations.

Outside of the office, Lars enjoys spending time with his family and friends, often engaging in friendly competition to secure the next victory on game night.
