Versatile biotech patent attorney who loves brainstorming to find creative solutions
With over 16 years of experience working in the Intellectual Property field, both in-house and in different law firms, Miguel Martinez has extensive experience in designing global IP strategies and advising clients on the prosecution of patent applications before the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPO).
Miguel usually collaborates with biotech companies and life science institutions, helping them to protect a variety of technologies like diagnostic methods based on the detection of biomarkers, therapeutic targets, advanced therapies, antibody technologies, medical devices, etc.
His main work includes drafting and defending patent applications, replying to office actions and carrying out infringement opinions.
Prior to joining HOFFMANN EITLE in 2017, he completed his Degree in Biology at the University of Leon (1999-2003), including one year of research work in the Department of Physiology in the field of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics. He also studied an MBA at ALITER International Business School (2005), an Advanced Course in Industrial and Intellectual Property at Instituto Empresa (2006) and an Advanced Business Development Course at Biotechnology Industry Organization (2014). He has worked as a patent attorney in different law firms (2005-2013) dealing with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical patents. He was the Intellectual Property Manager of a company (2013-2017) focused on the development and marketing of kits for the diagnosis of different types of cancer, which provided him with a special knowledge regarding the prosecution of patents in the diagnostic field.
In his free time, Miguel loves riding his mountain and road bikes, hiking and snowshoeing.
