Johannes Osterrieth is a trained chemist with an expertise in organic and inorganic synthesis, surface chemistry and materials chemistry. He works in multiple technical fields including cosmetics, battery technology, and medical devices, and is determined to provide support for clients in managing and protecting their intellectual property portfolios. Johannes is specialised in prosecution and opposition cases before the EPO.
Having lived many years in the UK attending highly ranked international universities, Johannes is most at home in the multinational world of patents. He advises clients from all around the globe both in industry and in academia.
Before joining HOFFMANN EITLE, Johannes read chemistry at Oxford with an integrated Master’s project in organic synthesis and photochemistry. He then studied at the Doctoral Training Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at Cambridge University obtaining a second Master’s degree and his PhD. His research on metal-organic frameworks and the fundamentals of adsorption has been published in high impact journals such as the Journal of the American Chemical Society and Advanced Materials.
In his free time, Johannes likes to take out his old-school Mini, bobbing down country lanes and going for walks, as well as cooking and reading.
