As a testimony to his curiosity, Rifat Camurdan enjoys handling patent applications in a wide range of fields covering telecommunications, electric and electronic systems, computing, software and medical devices, where he likes to learn new things and find that difference which makes an invention rise above and shine over the prior-art (although he happily espouses the perspective that the differences are all trivial nonsense, when necessary). Since joining HOFFMANN EITLE in 2014, he specialises in patent drafting, prosecution and oppositions before the European Patent Office, as well as the UK Intellectual Property Office, and has a keen interest in the legal and procedural aspects of patent prosecution.

Prior to entering the field of intellectual property, Rifat worked in Canada on the development of software for simulation and analysis of electromagnetic systems, such as electric motors and their applications, having transitioned into this field during his graduation design project on implantable antennas for hyperthermia therapy in cancer treatment to complete his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, where he also first came into contacts with patents.

Rifat enjoys spending his free time skiing, hiking or cycling, and when the weather is truly miserable, finding ways to use his 3D printer. He speaks English, French, and Turkish fluently, and is trying to add Italian and German to this list.
