Dr Ángela Weigert Muñoz is part of HOFFMANN EITLE´s Biotechnology practice group in the Munich office and is currently training to become a German and European Patent Attorney. She has experience in patent prosecution and in opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office as well as in drafting patent applications. Ángela's background is in biochemistry and chemical biology, giving her a broad technical knowledge, particularly in cell biology, protein biochemistry, microbiology, and organic chemistry.
Before joining the firm in 2023, Ángela studied biochemistry at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and spent one semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA). She completed her master's degree with the highest average grade of her year and was awarded the Jürgen Manchot Study Prize. During her PhD (summa cum laude) at TUM, which was supported by a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation, she investigated protein targets of bioactive small molecules and the associated cellular mechanisms. Her research resulted in several publications in renowned international journals, four of which she was the first author (PNAS, Chemical Science, RSC Chemical Biology, and Journal of Organometallic Chemistry).
Ángela grew up bilingual (Spanish and German). In her free time, she is interested in literature and podcasts and enjoys spending time in the mountains.
